Well
what do you know I'm getting busier these days. I haven't spent time
updating my news page so here we go.
I've found this great amazing new singer and her name is Cilla.
Together we are making some really cool music. Her voice is coming from
that place that is very rare for singers and she is blessed with a truly
original style. Her melodies are quite her own and she is quite a beauty.
She comes from Brasil via Guadeloupe and just graduated from Sarah Lawrence.
The few who have heard the songs say her style is somewhere between
Lauryn Hill, Sade, Morcheeba,
and Erikah Badu. We have been writing together
and have a couple of new songs that I produced. I've been able to revisit
some of the trademark Mer
guitar as well, creating a psychedelic groovy element that
seems to be in my blood, and the probable suspect for the Morcheeba
comparison.
Truly bummed and mostly pissed about
Elliot Smith. He was a truly gifted writer/performer
of our time. He was one of those artist whose songs you could listen
to over and over trying to figure out how he played a riff, and laced
his melodies and words. And of course wishing he could somehow just
be happy in life. For those of you who know me and my site I have always
credited him as one of my inspirations... the link to his site is and
has been on my links page for sometime. I hope they get the memorial
concert together for him in LA. I went to the memorial in Tompkins and
is was pretty sad.
On the up and up ... rumor has it that The Deuce Project
landed a song in a big hollywood film. Stone Cold, will apparently
be featured in a film from the director of Legally
Blond.....starring Kate Bosworth and Nathan
Lane...pretty cool. Hopefully this will excavate the record
from the netherworld of Maverick. We had a blast opening for O-Town.
The audience was 3000 screaming young girls in Detroit and I felt like
I was mixing the Beatles. It was a blast. I also got to mix them at
House of Blues
in Chicago for 2000 which for me was the highlight of the tour. Crazeeeeee.......Their
new CD Stone
Cold
is now available at your local record store and online so please
pick up a copy.
I've have had the pleasure to start working with a great hip hop band
from Boston called The Witness
Protection Program. They rock like Rage,
and get slow and smoovy like The Beastie Boys. All
the guys went or go to Harvard and are coming to NYC
to record in December.
Recently been listening to Holly
Williams, daughter of Hank
Jr. She writes some of the darkest, most intense lyrics
I have heard in a while. Also loving the new Erikah Badu
and Anthony Hamilton. And another white dash... another
white dash... another white dash......Butterfly
Boucher. Butterfly is one of the best
performers I've seen in a while, and she meticulously crafts jagged
little rockouts redefining indie rock.
I
just opened my studio Flow NY on Chrystie St. in NYC.
I can see for miles and miles up 2nd Ave and have a lot of East Village
sky. Its such a blessing since my last studio was a small cave. There
I've been working with Sophisticon, The
WPP, Cilla, powerhouse
Deshara Renee, Russian concert pianist Alexander
Izbitzer, as well as ultrababe turned rockstar Cash
Casia.
Drop me a line sometime!
All the best,
